We import, manufacture and distribute medical cannabis products, supporting patients and doctors with a stable and high quality supply of cannabis medicines. We work with suppliers from around the world as part of a strictly regulated supply chain, enabling us to provide flower, oils, vapes, creams and other medicinal forms to patients in the UK.
Role Overview
The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall management and performance of the site, acting as the main point of contact for the UK MD, based in the London office. The role involves coordinating people, machinery, and materials to meet production, quality, and efficiency targets. You will ensure full compliance with health and safety requirements, company policies, and industry regulations. The Operations Manager monitors site performance, proactively addresses operational issues, and leads continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with the Technical, Quality, and Production teams, you will support efficient and effective day-to-day operations while minimising downtime and maximising productivity.
Key Responsibilities
· Overall responsibility for the safe, compliant, and secure operation of the controlled drugs manufacturing site
· Ensure full compliance with GMP, MHRA requirements, Home Office Controlled Drugs licensing, and all relevant regulatory standards
· Act as the main point of contact between the site, senior management, regulators, and auditors
· Maintain strict control of controlled substances, including security, access control, record‑keeping, reconciliation, and waste management
· Lead, manage, and develop production, technical, and support teams to meet output, quality, cost, and compliance targets
· Enforce health, safety, and environmental standards, including risk assessments, incident management, and legislative compliance
· Monitor site performance, productivity, quality, and costs, taking corrective action where required
· Investigate deviations, implement effective CAPAs, and ensure audit readiness at all times
· Drive continuous improvement initiatives across production, quality, and operational processes
· Identify, problem‑solve, and implement solutions to minimise downtime, delays, and unnecessary costs
· Work with HR, when required, on employee‑related matters including performance, conduct, and development
· Collaborate with the Production Manager to oversee and support the end‑to‑end manufacturing process, ensuring output, quality, and compliance targets are met.
· Host site visits for suppliers and other interested pasties
Skills & Experience Required
· Proven experience in a Operations Manager or operational management role within a regulated manufacturing environment, ideally controlled drugs or pharmaceuticals
· Strong working knowledge of GMP, MHRA requirements, Home Office Controlled Drugs legislation, and regulatory compliance
· Demonstrated experience managing audits, inspections, deviations, and CAPAs
· Excellent leadership and people‑management skills, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams
· Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation and best practice
· Proven ability to manage site performance, productivity, costs, and continuous improvement initiatives
· High level of attention to detail with strong documentation and reporting skills
· Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities, particularly under pressure
· Confident communicator, able to liaise effectively with senior management, regulators, and external stakeholders
· IT‑literate with experience using manufacturing, quality, or reporting systems
