Would you like to work at the cutting edge of public service reform? Joining Mutual Ventures could be the right move for you.

We are seeking a self-motivated and ambitious individual with at least three to five years’ professional experience to join our successful team. We welcome applications from any background, and areas of particular interest include (but aren’t limited to): the NHS; adult social care; children's services; local government and other council services.

We offer a very different experience to working at a larger consultancy or the public sector. We empower and trust our team to make decisions and take responsibility for their own work, while being a tight knit team that supports each other. Everyone’s ideas are encouraged and valued, and everyone is welcome to take part in our decision-making processes (such as deciding on new markets we should move into).

Mutual Ventures is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We want to build a welcoming and diverse workplace, and we value true diversity of background, thought and experience in making our work the best it can be.

All qualified applicants will be considered for employment without regard to ethnic background, race, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, disability, age, or any other non-merit based or legally protected ground.

What we do

Mutual Ventures is a growing, vibrant management consultancy with a big reputation, operating at the cutting edge of public service reform. We are public service design and change implementation specialists working across all sectors including children’s services, adult social care, health and other community services. We work in the UK public sector and with third sector organisations who deliver public services.

Founded in 2011, our aim has remained the same of helping public services achieve more through combining a strong public service ethos with commercial discipline and an entrepreneurial culture.

We are passionate about better, more sustainable public services; our mission is to improve life chances by making public services better, more sustainable and more connected to communities. Our approach is based on our knowledge and commitment to public services and a ‘can do’ spirit which our clients believe sets us apart from other consultancies.

Your role

Working independently or as part of a team, our Senior Consultants can expect to lead and be involved in a range of projects at any one time, providing hands-on support to clients and support and guidance to team members. The work we do requires a mix of technical, problem-solving and relationship management skills; Consultancy is entrepreneurial and project-based by nature, meaning the day-to-day activities are often complex and varied.

Our projects vary in length and size, as do the demands of the client. You may be working with a large degree of independence or as part of a wider team. Your work can be based at our office, at a single client site or across several sites and work may involve travel and the possibility of overnight stays within the UK.

The requirements of any project will vary, but typical tasks and responsibilities for our Senior Consultants include:

  • Managing small/medium scale projects (i.e. 2-3 staff, usually up to £100k - but can be more over a longer period of time), delivering on time and to budget.
  • Understanding all the project deliverables, managing their delivery and making sure all deliverables produced by us are timely and high-quality;
  • Developing strong working relationships with clients and partners, building confidence and trust as well as tactfully raising issues, challenging client thinking, building consensus and resolving conflict;
  • Communicating ideas clearly and effectively one-on-one and in groups, both with and without visual aids, and in a variety of meeting environments;
  • Analysing complex data - both hard and soft - evaluating different sources of information and reconciling conflicting or ambiguous data;
  • Leading the development of written reports that add insight and/or resolution to client issues;
  • Quality-assuring work by other team members, providing good feedback and guidance;
  • Identifying opportunities to market and sell services to new and existing clients;
  • Leading the production of proposals in response to invitations to tender and writes expressions of interest; and
  • Acting as a coach and mentor, providing expertise, guidance, support and regular feedback to others.

About you

We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for public services and a good understanding of the major themes in public service reform, with the following skills, experience and attitudes:

  • A minimum 2:2 degree in any discipline and at least three to five years' experience either working with public services and/or in a management consultancy environment;
  • Experience of managing projects and teams, including delivering advice to senior figures;
  • An ability to interpret complex data (both hard and soft data, including numerical and statistical information);
  • Demonstrable leadership, coaching and mentoring skills;
  • Strong networking and relationship-management skills, with the ability to foster and maintain strong professional relationships and networks;
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and comfortable with facilitation and presenting (to small and large groups);
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure, recognising when to seek help or to delegate;
  • Able to deal positively with change, prioritise and manage simultaneous demands, and to recover quickly from setbacks and challenges;
  • Experience in business case development, business planning and/or financial modelling
  • Business development experience, including drafting successful bids and proposals;
  • Be comfortable with travel and the possibility of overnight stays within the UK (at times this could be two/three nights a week).
