Job Description
About the role
JD Europe launched across six markets in March 2026 and operates as a retailer, marketplace, China-sourced private label manufacturer, logistics operator, and OTC pharmacy. As the business scales, the compliance agenda is expanding rapidly — spanning sustainability regulation, marketplace compliance, product safety, and cross-border trade obligations across the EU and UK.
This is a newly created role sitting within the Compliance function and reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer. You will take ownership of the programme management infrastructure that keeps our compliance and sustainability initiatives on track — coordinating workstreams, tracking deliverables, and supporting implementation across a business that is moving quickly in a complex regulatory environment.
What you’ll do
- Own programme and project management across the Compliance and Sustainability function, including maintaining trackers, action logs, and implementation roadmaps for active regulatory and sustainability workstreams
- Support the implementation of sustainability initiatives across Joybuy’s European markets, including programmes relating to packaging regulation and extended producer responsibility (EPR), circular economy requirements, the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), and supply chain transparency requirements under emerging due diligence frameworks
- Coordinate compliance initiatives relating to the Joybuy marketplace, including pricing compliance obligations under the Omnibus Directive, seller onboarding and Know Your Business Customer (KYBC) requirements, Digital Services Act (DSA) implementation, and consumer protection standards
- Manage stakeholder coordination across internal teams — including Finance, Tax, Technology, Logistics, and Product — to ensure compliance deliverables are understood, resourced, and delivered on time
- Support the development and maintenance of ESG data collection, metrics, and reporting frameworks, including contributions to CSRD readiness and internal sustainability KPI tracking
- Prepare clear, structured briefing materials, status updates, and reporting packs for the CCO and senior leadership on programme progress, risks, and blockers
- Support the Compliance team in responding to regulatory change, including scoping impact assessments, drafting implementation plans, and coordinating responses to regulatory enquiries or enforcement activity
- Track the regulatory horizon across sustainability and marketplace compliance, flagging developments relevant to active programmes and supporting timely adaptation of workplans
- Liaise with external legal counsel and advisers to co-ordinate workstreams and manage inputs into compliance programmes
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal compliance policies, procedures, and training materials as programmes mature
- Support on ad hoc compliance projects across the function’s four pillars as business needs require
What we’re looking for
- Three to six years’ experience in programme or project management within a compliance, regulatory affairs, sustainability, legal, or finance function; a background with a compliance or sustainability specialism is welcome
- Demonstrable experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder programmes in a fast-moving environment
- Comfort with data, metrics, and measurement frameworks
- Familiarity with EU and/or UK regulatory frameworks relevant to ecommerce, product compliance, or sustainability — for example, EPR, Omnibus Directive, DSA, GPSR, EUDR, or CSRD — is a strong advantage
- Highly organised, structured, and delivery-focused; able to hold multiple workstreams simultaneously without losing detail
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to translate complex regulatory or technical matters into clear management reporting
- Collaborative and comfortable working across functions and seniority levels, including with external counsel and senior leadership
- Experience in ecommerce, retail, digital platforms, or a Chinese-owned business operating in Western markets is an advantage but not required
Why this role
The Compliance function at JD Europe is being built from the ground up. You will work directly with the CCO on programmes that matter to the business — from sustainability regulation reshaping how we source and package products, to the marketplace compliance infrastructure that underpins how we operate across six markets. There is real scope to shape how the function works and grows.
